Vaginoplasty is a cosmetic and reconstructive procedure that addresses vaginal relaxation, i.e., the loss of tightness from the vaginal canal. Vaginal relaxation makes the muscles of the vaginal canal lose their strength and tightness, increasing the vagina’s diameter. Vaginoplasty tightens the vaginal canal and muscles, restoring a youthful vagina. After childbirth, many women experience laxity in their pelvic muscles and tissues due to the physical trauma of delivery. The vagina typically heals and returns to a more “normal” size, but often fails to return to its pre-pregnancy diameter.

As a result, many women report decreased sensation and diminished sexual satisfaction during intercourse, commonly due to a lack of friction. “From the moment I met Dr. Patel, I knew I was in good hands. Due to giving birth to three children (vaginal deliveries) the walls of my vagina were not what they once were. WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Dr. Falguni Patel performs the vaginoplasty procedure in her state-of-the-art and OSHA-certified surgical suite after a thorough evaluation and consultation. She discusses your goals and needs, examines the vaginal area, and runs several tests to curate the most effective and safest vaginoplasty techniques. The procedure may be performed under local or general anesthesia.

Vaginoplasty in New Jersey is performed as an in-office and outpatient procedure that lasts for 60 to 90 minutes, though it may take longer if combined with other surgical procedures, like a labiaplasty. The surgeon tightens and reinforces the vaginal muscles and perineum, thereby reducing the vaginal diameter and strengthening the pelvic floor.

After determining the amount of tightening to be done, Dr. Falguni Patel marks a pie-shape wedge of extra skin to be removed from inside the vagina. Beneath the skin, she uses strong sutures to tighten the vaginal tissues.

Once the vaginal canal is tightened, she sutures the mucosal skin closed and removes any external skin that protrudes to create a more aesthetically-pleasing appearance.

You can expect some spotting and swelling for a few days, but the prescribed pain medications and ice packs will alleviate the discomfort. You can resume most of your daily activities and work after 3 days and return to work within 2 weeks. However, you must avoid sexual intercourse and strenuous activities for 6 to 8 weeks.
